The programme combines a range of diverse approaches to making performance, drawing on devising, physical theatre, directing, socially engaged practice, and solo work.
It is delivered in partnership with major London cultural institutions, including the internationally renowned Lyric Hammersmith.
The course is offered through an applied and low residency model that makes it unique in the country for this field, and particularly attractive to those wishing to further their studies and enhance their career opportunities without putting their practice on hold in order to commit to a traditional offering.
This MA is suitable for recent graduates as well as mature students and professionals already working in the creative sector as performers, directors, writers or educators. It combines intensive practical modules delivered by our industry partners, with applied modules that offer students insight in the industry, a survival toolkit for the creative industries, and one to one supervision. The Low Residency Performance Module led by Lyric Hammersmith focuses on community engagement, offering a hands-on experience at the heart of the London theatre sector. The module is delivered in the Lyric Hammersmith’s impressive facilities. The Intensive Theatre Making Module with a Guest Theatre Company will offer opportunities to develop practical theatre making and performance skills and collaborate with leading professionals who will challenge the students to extend their own practice. For this we collaborate with visiting companies: Frantic Assembly, Dirty Market Theatre, and fanSHEN.
Applicants should hold a good honours degree of 2.2 or above in a relevant academic discipline, or equivalent. Applications from candidates with relevant experience will be considered on an individual basis.
International applicants must also hold a minimum of 6.5 score in the IELTS test for English language.
