Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) invites applications for the position of Director of the Center for Humanities and the Arts (CHA). Applicants must be tenured full professors at the time of hire (August 2019) who work in any discipline of the arts or humanities. We seek an individual with a distinguished record of scholarship and/or creative work; a commitment to diversity and inclusion; a passion for advancing the arts and humanities on campus, in the community, and across disciplines; and strong managerial, communication, and public relations skills. Effective fundraising and outreach will also be vital to the future of the center. We seek, in short, an energetic CHA Director who has a developed vision for the future of the arts and humanities, who will expand the CHA’s reach, and who will champion the arts and humanities as essential components of a 21st century education. The successful candidate will be tenured at the rank of full professor in an appropriate CU Boulder academic department or program. While serving as CHA Director, the successful candidate will hold the title Eaton Professor of Humanities and Arts and will receive a director stipend, research funds, and reduced teaching load.
Who We Are
Established in 1997, the CHA supports research and creative work in the arts and humanities for faculty and graduate students in the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Music, the University Libraries, and the College of Media, Communication and Information. The CHA Director reports to the Dean of the Graduate School and oversees CHA staff, a faculty steering committee, and an external advisory board. Currently, the CHA Director administers fellowships and grants; plans workshops, symposia, and visiting speakers; communicates with departments, programs, and other CU centers; and maintains strong relationships with alumni, friends, and donors. The CHA helps to launch and houses numerous interdisciplinary CU Boulder arts and humanities initiatives, such as the PhD Consortium in the Literatures and Languages, the Laboratory for Race and Popular Culture (RAP Lab), and the CU Romanticism Laboratory (CURL). The CHA also operates the Hazel Barnes flat in London, which provides lodging for faculty and graduate students pursuing or presenting research in the UK. What We Require
Requirements for the position include a terminal degree in any arts or humanities discipline or related discipline (PhD, MFA, DMA, or other relevant terminal degree), a substantive record of scholarly and/or creative achievement, a strong commitment to teaching, and a minimum of one year of previous administrative experience in higher education. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of one year of previous experience in community outreach and fundraising. Applicants must be tenured full professors at the time of hire (August 2019) who work in any discipline of the arts or humanities.
