Semih Firincioglu, a performance director, composer and writer, has opened a website, “Notes on the Performing Arts,” consisting of a string of essays directed primarily for the practitioners and students of the performing arts, including theater, dance, dance theater, ballet, music, performance art, and film/video. His approach is based on the standpoint that art is created for transmission of meaning to perceivers and he closes in on the subject matter starting with the basic concepts of meaning-making and communication. The goal is to provide a free and accessible resource for thinking about the concept of performance, parts of which can be used as classroom material. Firincioglu lives in New York City and is not affiliated with an organization.
