Northwestern University seeks applicants for a one-year Mellon-funded Postdoctoral Fellowship. The fellow will play a leading role in organizing, administering, and participating in the Mellon Sawyer seminar “On Decolonizing Theatre” that explores how contemporary performances of works originating 1650-1830 address slavery, colonialism, and the globalization of trade and communication networks. We seek a scholar working in decolonial theory, race, gender and sexuality, musicology, dance, and/or theatre and performance studies, broadly construed, whose research focuses on one or more of the aforementioned phenomena.
The Fellowship carries a 12-month appointment beginning 1 September 2023, a salary of $60,000, and a relocation stipend. To apply, candidates must have completed all requirements for their doctoral degree between Spring 2019 and August 31, 2023. Applicants may come from any discipline in the humanities or arts.
The Fellow is expected to be an active participant in all aspects of the seminar. Primary responsibilities will be to attend and help facilitate workshops and dramaturgy-led discussions; plan a week-long institute summer of 2024; and assist as needed in the coordination of events. There is also an opportunity for the Fellow to teach a course of their own design.
To apply, please provide the selection committee with the following documentation:
• Cover Letter where you explain your contribution to the seminar
• CV
•  2 Letters of recommendation
• Abstract of dissertation and/or book project
The application deadline is March 15, 2023, 11:59 p.m. (CST). Interviews for the position will be conducted on Friday, March 31, 2023. Inquiries about the position may be sent to ondecolonizingtheatre@northwestern.edu
