2022 PSi Awards
As PSi is holding a virtual conference this year (PSi #27: Hunger), and next year’s annual PSi conference (PSi #28) will be taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa, the 2022 PSi Awards look to the present, as well as the future.
The 2022 PSi Awards are as follows:
THE ROYAL CENTRAL PRIZE
The Royal Central Prize is awarded annually by the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (RCSSD) to an excellent graduate student (MPhil or PhD), or an independent scholar, for a successful presentation proposal for the PSi conference program, in the year that it is granted, in the domain of practice either as a method or object of enquiry, or both.
Who is eligible for the 2022 Royal Central Prize?
Graduate Students (MPhil or PhD) or independent scholars already presenting at PSi #27: Hunger in the domain of practice either as a method or object of enquiry, or both.
What is the 2022 Royal Central Prize?
The Royal Central Prize of £500 is awarded annually to assist the recipient in covering the costs of attending the PSi conference in the year it is granted. However, as this year’s PSi #27: Hunger conference is being held online, and therefore no travel is involved, the winner of the 2022 The Royal Central Prize (this year only) may use the funds towards their own research purposes.
Application Deadline: There is no application deadline as the 2022 winner is selected from eligible candidates already presenting at PSi #27: Hunger.

A representative of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama will announce the winner of the 2022 Royal Central Prize at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday, July 9 (8pm Manila: GMT+8).
THE DWIGHT CONQUERGOOD AWARD
The PSi Board of Directors bestows The Dwight Conquergood Award every conference year in honor of the memory of Dwight Conquergood (1949-2004), a ground-breaking ethnographer and former Vice President of PSi, best known for his cross-disciplinary research on the disenfranchised.
Who is eligible for the 2022 Dwight Conquergood Award?
The Dwight Conquergood Award is granted annually to an artist, an activist, or an emerging academic conducting research or working on projects with disenfranchised communities. The award is open to graduate students andearly career researchers (up to three years since PhD), as well as to practitioners and community members who may be working outside of educational or institutional structures. For 2022, only applicants who have alreadyhad their presentation proposal accepted by the organizers of the PSi #27: Hunger conference, and who are current members of PSi, are eligible to receive the award.
What is the 2022 Dwight Conquergood Award?
The Dwight Conquergood Award normally covers the cost of travel expenses and registration fees to attend the PSi conference in the year that it is given. However, as this year’s PSi #27: Hunger conference is being held online and no travel is required, the winner of the 2022 Dwight Conquergood Award will receive the following:
- Travel expenses (airfare and accommodation) and registration fees for PSi #28 conference in Johannesburg, South Africa in July 2023
- A one-year membership to PSi.

THE ARTIST | SCHOLAR | ACTIVIST AWARD (ASA)
The Artist|Scholar|Activist Award (ASA) awards outstanding achievement within the cross-disciplinary field of performance. The award is given to an Artist/Scholar/Activist who has spent at least a decade fostering exchange among Artists/Scholars/Activists and whose work has facilitated collaboration, either interdisciplinary or international.
Who is eligible for the ASA Award?
Artists/Scholars/Activists (ASAs) who have spent a minimum of a decade fostering exchange among ASAs and whose work has facilitated collaboration, either interdisciplinary or international. Nominations are received from both the conference director(s) and from the PSi Board of Directors. The PSi Awards Committee then appoints a winner in collaboration with the conference organizer(s).
What is the 2022 ASA Award?
The Artist | Scholar | Activist Award consists of:
- $1000 (USD)
- Conference registration fees for PSi #28 in Johannesburg, South Africa, 2023
Nomination Deadline: September 1, 2022. Please Note: There is no application process for the ASA Award as nominations are only received from the conference director(s) and PSi Board of Directors.
