World Ends Day #3 is the third edition of a series of one-day online symposia that aims to articulate ongoing conversations about the various ends we are encountering and performing. Through provocations and conversations, we aim to develop posthumous perspectives in and on performance studies and research.
This year, World Ends Day #3 presents an opportunity to collectively imagine, debate, and exchange insights on the myriad forms of endings that we encounter. This symposium will direct its gaze toward the potentialities of the collective amid the ceaseless tide of individual crises. Through the dialogues with our invited groups, we aim to identify nodes of resonances among different empirical ends, hoping to cultivate a more generative approach to confronting the thorny questions of endings. Here, we do not seek to merely understand the ends—we seek to embody and embrace them, fostering a collective resilience against the forces that insist on our dissolution.
On 31 October 2024, a double bill of roundtables on the topic of ends will bring together thinkers, artists, and practitioners from multiple cultural provenances reflecting on various threads of ends. Each session will invite two group speakers, who will first provide a 25-minute provocation on ends based on their recent works and research. The various topics will cover the long-term impact on collective memories and geological imaginaries, atmospherics and transperformance, grieves and anxieties, environmental catastrophes, disaster and racial capitalism, the dead and spirits and their intertwinement with coloniality, patriarchal narratives, and lost histories. After each provocation by the speakers from their own scholarships and perspectives, we will open the roundtable to a larger conversation with online participants.
