About the Event

An Ongoing Struggle

Blood Pearls is a short documentary film on the ongoing struggle of the indigenous Palaw’an and Molbog to reclaim their ancestral lands and waters and to protect their homes from a corporate landgrab for an ecotourism project in Marihangin, Bugsuk, Balabac, Palawan, Philippines. This Constellate event will screen the film and will feature an artist talk with filmmaker Känakän Balintagos aka Aureus Solito who is a Palaw’an. Our aim is to amplify the issue and explore ways to support and build international solidarity.
Känakän Balintagos is an award-winning filmmaker well-known for (among others) his first feature film Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros (2005) which won 15 international awards and Busong (Palawan Fate) (2011) which was selected at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2011.
